From Campo, our group continued east on Hwy 94 which took us to Old Highway 8. We wound our way toward Jacumba Hot Springs. On this road we got really close to the International Boundary; we stopped alongside the road for a photo opportunity. (In the picture Carlos Vasquez posed). We then stopped at the Jacumba Hot Springs Spa and Resort Restaurant for lunch. The food was excellent even though during our visit there, they experienced an electrical outag...e. At this venue my friend Darren Johns was blessed by the waitress with a new handle as he was constantly talking. “Gabby Johns” was born. Our next stop was Ocotillo to fuel up for the ride back to Temecula. At Ocotillo we headed out on SR-2. This road has many names; better known as the Great Southern Overland Stage Route (Butterfield Stages). Imperial Highway out of Ocotillo, then it goes through Sweeny Pass and takes on that name but on the map it is S-2. We climbed from the desert floor toward Warner Ranch and Hwy. 79. Before nearing Hwy 78 and San Felipe Road we had a mandatory ice cream stop at the Stagecoach Trail Store in Shelter Valley. I guess I was the last one out when I was approached by a couple of my wayward misguided impractical jokers who harmoniously stated I had left something on my bike. So I made a bee line only to see that I had been duped again. Though I have to admit, I was sort of numb in that area, but I would not let them know it at all. Humor is the spark of life and with my friends, I’ve got a lot of spark plugs. Great ride.
